A Day Trip to Akihabara
I love Akihabara. Perhaps it’s the multitude of gadgets, shopping opportunities, bright lights or shopkeepers screaming in an effort to attract customers. Perhaps because it’s a place I can buy old video games stuff. I think the sheer randomness of it is why I love Akihabara.
Sure, it may not be the cheapest (The video camera I want is 20,000yen more expensive in Akihabara), but there are many Anime/Comic shops, with a fair few adult video shops thrown in there for laughs. Akihabara has a reputation for attracting legit consumers, as well as nerdy types (”otaku” - those 44 year olds who live with their mums and don’t have a human girlfriend as comic ones “don’t complain and are easier to maintain”). Due to the latter demographic, Akiba has spawned Maid cafes. Here, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, served by a girl dressed up in a French maid’s outfit whilst being called “Master”. No, I’ve never been in one, but would love to in the future (purely for sciencesake).
In order to drum up business, some cafes let their meido (maids) loose to distribute pamphlets and tissues. Camera otaku take the opportunity to snap a few piccies of these young lasses, as you’ll see in the gallery. (I apologize for the quality as I had the camera on the wrong setting. bugger)
