How To Be A Harajuku Girl

Have you been listening to Gwen Stefani? Have you bought in to her love for Harajuku? Well, help is at hand. It’s quite easy to dress up Harajuku style, and you can even do it in Michigan, thanks to The Flint Journal.
(Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Flint where Michael Moore hails from? It doesn’t look like the kind of place you’d see a lot of Harajuku wannabes. The writer of the article is obviously on a one woman mission to change all that.)

This weekend, I’ll so be employing the most important piece of advice I garnered from the article -

Think of yourself as a character like a fairy or a living doll and exaggerate the key elements of that character. Visit your local thrift shop and practice putting items together. It’s a great place to shop because you have access to many different styles and genres of clothing to begin your Harajuku-style outfit.

Yay! Goth Lol heres I comes!

Link. (just click on Not In The US when the personal details form comes up, it’ll take you right there.)

Rawr. Gwen-pig needs to shut up. I had a lot more respect, if any, for her before she started this whole Harajuku craze.
It’s all lies. Harajuku isn’t something you can package and sell in Macy’s. It’s individuality and having fun. And looking damn awesome in the process. Whether you tried to or not. Just be yourself and wear what you like. Not something displayed in a window and labeled as ‘cool’. [end of rant]

Mind you, the whole thing works in reverse; the “diet punk” look is very popular at the moment in Japan…

Ah, the melting pot gettin ever larger…
