How to Pay Your Respects At A Shinto Shrine

Kateigaho, Japan’s Arts & Culture magazine, have some articles from their back issues online, and there’s a great number of interesting articles to be found on many different aspects of Japanese culture. This one was both interesting and entertaining. There’s more than one thing to remember when you visit a shrine, but I reckon the most important would have to be - don’t show your backside to the deity.howtopayreverence

    I’ve been to this Shrine in Kyoto, it’s quite large and was covered half in scaffolding so I’m not sure if the resident Kami got a look at my bum of not.

    Funny aside, in Thailand you can’t show the Buddha your feet.
