Sakura, Sakura

Cherry Blossom (さくら - Sakura) Season is rapidly advancing on Japan - and soon those living in the country will be engulfed in SakuraMania. SakuraMania (as I call it) means that EVERYTHING has cherry blossom flavoring, colouring or scent. In this vein, a Sakura “Happoshu” (low malt beer - often brewed with bean or corn as alternatives to avoid Japanese taxation laws) often goes on sale at this time. It’s sickly sweet and sure to give any imbiber diabetes.
When parks are in full bloom, people park their blue tarpaulins under the trees and eat and drink in the hope that a falling cherry blossom will land in their drink, bringing them good luck. Sakura are said to live the life of samurai — brief but beautiful - and the wee-long lifespan of the blossoms is just that.
The sushimatic crew will try our best to bring you antics and pictures of the events we shall be participating in - weather permitting of course.
