The Pitfalls of Love, pt I

Bored with singledom, I decided to see what companionship I could in Japan over the Internet. Several friends back in The Real World had reported success through such avenues, so I thought, “Why not me?” Here are the details of my journey for love thus far.

I signed up on a free (in a manner of speaking) personals forum. I wrote a little introductory statement. I even posted a photo. I decided that I had to take initiative, and so after checking about 20 profile, I found about 5 that had potential, and attempted to contact them. It was then that I found out where the money comes in. To send mail though the service, you had to pay about 2000 yen for 31 days of unlimited mailing. Actually, that is very, very generous considering the fees for most deiai kei sites.

This is were the real world intruded. Many Japanese businesses still won’t accept foreign credit cards, and ths was one of those places. Stymied. So, I’m unable to initiate contact until I get a Japanese card, which I am in the process of applying for.

But as I was waiting, I got 3 nibbles.
