The Pitfalls of Love, pt II
Where was I? … Ah, yes, the three nibbles.
To start off, I was in a passive position, unable to initiate contact, but if someone wrote and gave me an e-mail address, the game was on. Which these 3 did.
And so contact began, with us starting to to write back and forth. Never one to put all my eggs in one basket, of course I got talking to all three. These ladies were of different ages, 26, 30, and 35. Our correspondence seemed pleasent enough.
But then a curious thing happened. The youngest, “Yumi,” said she was a freeter and a driving enthusiast, and intimated that she would like to take me for a drive. But, she said, it was probably a little too soon for that just yet, and meeting for a drink would be better to start with. I indicated my assent. It was then she said, between work and driving, she didn’t have a huge amount of time to be in front of the computer, so if I wanted, I could use a site that would route my messages directly to her cell phone. Then we could arrange a meeting or something.
Hmmn, I thought, well, why not? So I visited this website, which brightly proclaimed that registration was free. I registered, and got a little message saying that I had 60 free points. Woohoo! Without checking much more of the site, I mailed back to “Yumi” using regular e-mail and asked, now what? She said, and I sort-of-quote (’cuz she only typed Japanese), “Well, I lied making my profile for this routing site, because I wanted to make some Tokyo friends. So just search under ‘Yumi’, ‘Tokyo’, ‘Beautiful OL’, and ‘20′.” The alarm bells, which had just been humming before, started blaring. I decided to look at the site a little more carefully, and other women using the site had very suggestive messages. Oh, boy.
I decided to send a message through that site to “Yumi” saying, what is this, but lo and behold, I had lost all my points just checking out other people’s intro messages. But I could easily purchase more points just by whipping out my credit card and entering the data.
Yeah, right.
Bye bye, Yumi.
So, at the same time as this was going on, I was also in the middle of communication with “Kyoko,” a piano teacher, and “Mai,” owner of a small Korean food importing business.
Love was waiting on the digital highway.
