The Pitfalls of Love, pt III

My next two forrays into the world of online dating, Mai and Kyoko, were quite interesting. But remember, they happened at the same time as the flighty Yumi. Let’s start with Kyoko.

Ms. Kyoko’s profile seemed nice; she was nearly my age, said she was a piano teacher. We had a few of the same interests. We started exchanging e-mails. On about the third day, she said that she’d like to meet me for coffee in the near future. I thought, “That was quick, but why not?” (You know, that whole ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ thing). I replied, “OK.”

“But,” she said, “I don’t have a PC at home. In fact, I’m at my friend’s place, using her computer. So, if it’s all right, you can register at this site that will route your mails directly to my cel.”

Uh-oh, I thought. I replied back that I was in no rush, and communicating like this was fine for the time being. I explained that even if I wanted to use the site (which I didn’t), I wouldn’t be able to use my foreign credit card to continue using the site. Kyoko sent a mail saying that it would be a gesture of trust on my part if I signed up. I looked at the site, and thought, “What the hell? It’s only some extra junk mail.” So I did.

She was very happy, and said she’d really like to meet me. I suggested Sunday afternoon (at this point it was Friday evening). She suggested that evening. I thought that woudn’t be a good idea, being so soon, and she (reluctantly?) agreed. I again suggested coffee on Sunday, and mentioned that I was running out of points, so I wouldn’t be able to use the site anymore. She sent back that she didn’t trust me enough to send me here cell address, and it was this site or nothing.

What? She says she wants to meet someone she knows next to nothing about, yet she can’t send a phone address or continue to use pc mail. Can you smell the BS too?

Bye-bye Kyoko.

So we rewind once again, to Mai…

(to be continued)
