Your Own Digs courtesy of Leopalace
If you’ve lived in Japan, you’re probably familiar with Leopalace apartments. If you’ve visited, you’ve definitely seen them. They’re low cost bedsits for the young uns who have absolutely no collateral or cash to speak of, and if you’ve ever been inside one, you’ll know that you get a one room deal, with a tiny bathroom and a tiny toilet off the hall. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a nice elevated sleeping area at one end of the room. They’re anything but stylish - nevertheless, Leopalace are trying to make their drab buildings a little more sexy, starting by employing the services of Norika Fujiwara -
- and then hammering home the point by spending a lot of money on furniture to glam up one of these apartments. I doubt the majority of people who live in Leopalace apartments have such nice furniture. I don’t even know where one might find such a glam looking table.
Things get even more creative when it comes to naming their buildings -
My personal faves include Special Steel Residence,Gold Nail, Durable and the number-one-accidental-couldn’t-make-it-up-if-you-tried : Cubicle.
Beautiful. Think I might move.

Our son lives in a leopalace apartment in Funabashi. There just happens to be an IKEA store two train stops away. The table you mention, I bet could come from there.
We found a convenient folding table with two chairs at IKEA that works very well in the leopalace.
Lugging ‘ready-to-assemble’ furniture on the trains to get back to the apartment is an adventure…

Can you really get such nice stuff on the cheap at IKEA? I have to confess I’ve never been to one…
